The main body of this church is called the Nave. It comes from the same Latin root word for boat (hence the word NAVY). The Nave in the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption is spacious and airy, uncluttered by pillars or columns. This is due to the fact that the beginning St. Mary’s was one of the first churches in the area to be built with steel beams.
