Church Tour

Welcome to St. Mary Cathedral! St. Mary’s was founded as a parish on September 30th, 1866 and became a Cathedral when the Diocese of Saginaw was established in 1938.

If you look at the Cornerstone you will find that this building was built in 1901. It is the third church structure to be built on the corner of Hoyt and Owen. Starting with a small wooden structure to a larger wooden structure to finally the brick structure that is here today.

Over the years the building has been renovated a number of times; each renovation reflected the changing styles of worship and technology.

The last and most far reaching renovation was completed in 2017.  Bishop Joseph Cistone
with the help of the Diocese Office of Liturgy, Fr. Andy Booms, Rector and Luis DiCocco of Liturgical Arts Studio sought to bring balance and beauty into the worship space.  Embracing classical material and modern simplicity. Want to understand the renovation better, read Bishop’s homily form the Mass of Dedication on May 9, 2017. You can watch it here:
